Post Natal Care

Post Natal:

A magical time for mother and child

Pregnancy and birth have always been a magical time for mothers, be it for the first time or for successive children.

Asian mothers have been known to set aside a confinement period of at least 30 days to help them recover after the changes brought upon their physical and psychological being. Most go on a strict regime of diet and traditional treatments such as herbal bath, stomach binding and massage to help them relax and recover their pre natal shapes. These treatments give valuable time off for privacy.

Below are the description of all the rituals in the Tanamera Spa Post-Natal Program. Click here to find out more about program.

Three Steps For A Silky Smooth Bottom

We know all you Tanamera-loving girls are addicted to walking up stairs and doing squats in the gym. There is no better way to keep that derriere toned and tight. But is the skin around your bootie dry, bumpy and discolored? Well, you can say goodbye to those for good. We've got the latest tips!

Spot Treatment
First, check whether you've got any acne on your bottom. If you do, cleanse the affected area with your regular facial wash before applying some acne-zapping cream to get rid of spots and prevent new ones from popping up.

For a more natural remedy, try dabbing the affected area with a mixture of water and a few drops of vinegar or lemon juice and leave to dry. Cleanse and treat twice a day for the next few days until the acne's gone.

Be patient. It's important to treat any blemishes before you proceed.

Exfoliate
Is the skin at your bottom darker than the rest of your body? That's very common among Asian women. Unfortunately, it's genetic and there's not much you can, do but rubbing some lemon, a natural skin lightener, will reduce the dark areas.

A scrub will also do wonders. To make your own, mix some used coffee grains with olive oil. Use twice a week with circular movements. The rough coffee grains will remove all the dead skin to expose the beautiful layer of soft, new skin underneath.

Pressed for time? Add some coarse sugar to your regular facial wash.

Moisturize
Your skin will feel a little thirsty after all that scrubbing so it's important to rehydrate - dry skin will just make your skin rough and crinkly. To keep your skin well moisturized, apply some oil all over your body, paying more attention to the bottom of course, before you towel off after a shower (you want to capture all that moisture from the beads of water that are still clinging on to your skin). Then pat yourself dry with a towel.

For best results, do this twice a day, every day. Virgin coconut oil will do the trick (it's super moisturizing and smells heavenly) but to mix things up, try ginger or lemongrass scented oil for an exotic tropical spa vibe. Feeling stressed? Nothing will calm you down like lavender.

At Tanamera Kayu Ara, we offer a Mentari Bodyworks where you can enjoy our wonderful full-body massage, scrub and mask.  This 2 hours, 15 minutes treatment package is only RM199.  Call us at 019-2677553.  Our spa is at One Avenue, Dataran Pelangi Utama, Jalan Masjid, Kayu Ara.  If TV3 Sri Pentas is on your right, turn left after Shell/Esso and our spa is on your left after the Pelangi Condominium.  For detailed information on our full services, please visit tanameraspa.com.my.

Benefits Of Tea: There Is More To It Than Just A Cup

Soothing, Calming (Acne Zapping!) Tea

The next time you're feeling anxious, fix yourself a cup of tea. But don't rush to finish it. Sit down and savour its warmth. Notice its rich, beautiful colour. Then deeply inhale its wonderful aroma. Take a sip. Ahh… heaven. Oh, but you didn't throw away that tea bag did you?

Pep Up Your Peepers

Tea - in a bag, loose leaf or steeped in warm water - can do wonders. For starters, it'll brighten up your eyes and refresh your skin, making you look as if you got 8 hours of sleep (instead of the actual four). So the next time you've got panda eyes - from lack of sleep or from staring at the computer for too long - set a timer for fifteen minutes, lie down and place a wet tea bag over each eye. You'll wake up feeling fresh and sparkly-eyed.

Freshen Your Tootsies

But don't stop at just your eyes. Tea's refreshing (your peepers should be able to attest to that by now) so is it any surprise that it can also soothe tired feet? To do that, steep half a cup of tea leaves in three litres of water for at least ten minutes. Strain and let cool (if you're not going to use the brew immediately, pop it in the fridge and it'll keep for up to a week).

Make a refreshing foot bath by pouring enough tea into a basin to cover both your feet until above the ankles. Add a few ice cubes and soak for fifteen minutes.
A fabulous bonus: tea has anti-fungal properties for truly fresh tootsies.

Tea's also great for keeping your skin blemish-free.

The next time you get a pimple, dab a wet tea bag against the red spot and let it dry - the tea will reduce the swelling and redness. Got a lot of acne? Try making your own acne-zapping face mask. Start by steeping two green tea bags in 6 oz. of hot water for 5 minutes.

Then add the tea, a tablespoon at a time, into a cup of aloe vera gel (you can buy this at the pharmacy) until the mixture's consistency is less thick than the aloe vera gel but not too runny. Apply to your face every morning and night, leaving it to dry before putting on your moisturiser and makeup. Your skin should clear up in 3-4 weeks.

We offer a range of teas and other "Down To Earth" products.  Please visit us at our spa at:
3-10, One Avenue, Jalan Masjid, Kayu Ara (in the vicinity of Bandar Utama) or call us at 019-2677553.

Top Four Skincare Mistakes Women Make

Your skin remembers when you do not take care of it....

Avoid these major skincare mistakes and your skin will say thank you by staying plump, smooth and flawless.

Drinking too little water
Yup, the golden rule of drinking 6-8 glasses of water still applies. And there's a good reason for that too. Drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day not only keeps your body and skin hydrated, it'll keep you looking young because your skin looks plump and is less prone to developing wrinkles.

You can substitute water with freshly squeezed juice (make sure you hold the sugar!) but not coffee and soft drinks. They contain caffeine, which is a diuretic. It'll encourage your body to excrete water instead of keeping all that hydrated goodness inside.

A can't-resist bonus: your body burns more fat because your internal organs work better when they're fully hydrated.

Sleeping with makeup on
Oh, we’ve all done it. Came home late and crashed into bed. “The makeup remover can wait,” you think. Well, actually, it can’t. Just think about all the stuff that your skin’s been exposed to. Pollution, cigarette smoke, sweat – your face is now the ideal breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to acne.

Also, because makeup clogs pores, your skin can’t breathe through the night, leaving you with dry, flaky and definitely-not-sexy skin in the morning. Try keeping a few of those handy baby wipes next to your bed. You can use it to remove your makeup… lying down.

Leaving your skin thirsty at night
You know what would be another great thing to have next to your bed? A jar of night cream. Night time’s when your skin gets a break from fighting off UV rays and concentrates on rebuilding and rejuvenating itself. But it needs some moisture to do this, which is exactly what your night cream provides.

Just make sure that your night cream contains active ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). They help boost skin repair. Another great habit to cultivate: apply another layer of night cream if you wake up in the middle of the night. It’ll keep your skin plump, young and dewy. Love!

Skipping sunscreen
Now that you’ve got your night time skin care routine down pat, it’s time to wake up to a new day. So you’ve got your cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Great! But wait, where’s your sunscreen? It’s a daily must. And because it’s super important, we’re going to say it again: sunscreen is a daily must.

It protects your skin from those harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays which generate free radicals (cancer alert!) and ages your skin prematurely. For best protection, choose a sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and combats both UVA and UVB rays.

Apply liberally every day even if it’s cloudy. In the sun all the time? Reapply liberally every four hours.

Benefits Of Coconut Water And Virgin Coconut Oil

Coconut tree gives us its everything.  When we were little and in school, we were taught how useful coconut trees can be to our daily lives.  The leaves can be ataps roof, the branches can be brooms, the trunk can be a bridge.  The coconut fruit itself, just like its mother tree, offers aplenty, refreshing drink, pure white tasty santan milk, husk and shell that fuel cookings and they make nice decors and utensils too.

Coconuts don't just offer us its everything.  Each of its everything offers us countless benefits.

The following is excerpts from the website Virgin Coconut Oil.

The juice of the coconut fruit is not just a tasty refreshing drink, it is also a healthy beverage with lots of good benefits for the body because it is 100% fat free and low in sugar and carbohydrates content.
The water inside the coconut is also filled with organic compounds that helps one maintain a healthy and strong body.  Here are some of the benefits one can get from coconut water:

Coconut Water Prevents Dehydration. People who are active such as athletes or simply those who are fitness enthusiasts are always at risk to be dehydrated because the body loses fluids when doing strenuous activities. For this reason active people are advised to regularly drink coconut water because it replaces the fluids and essential minerals that are lost during a physical activity.

Coconut Water Is A Natural Cure For Kidney Stones and UTI. If you are having difficulty peeing because you are suffering from urinary tract infection (UTI) or other urinary problems, then regular consumption of coconut water can relieve you of this illness.
People with kidney stones are also advised to drink coconut water to naturally and effectively get rid of the stones.  Plus coconut water is also a detoxifier that reduces toxin in the body.

Coconut Water Keeps Digestive System Healthy.  This is because coconut water kills intestinal worms.

One of the essential gifts of coconut is its oil.  Virgin coconut oil is the oil in its most natural unrefined form.  Virgin Coconut Oil is high in lauric acid (also present in human breast milk) which is very beneficial in attacking viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. Its antimicrobial properties can be used to fight various diseases.

Virgin coconut oil is one of the few herbal supplements that you can enjoy both ways; internally and externally. Taking the recommended dosage of three tablespoons a day of virgin coconut oil is beneficial but simply applying it on skin can also help you in a variety ways.

Virgin Coconut Oil - Great Oil for Relaxation
Warm virgin coconut oil is excellent as massage oil. Upon skin absorption, it takes away dirt and improves blood circulation. Unlike other oils; it doesn’t leave too much stain on sheets and clothes. The therapeutic properties of virgin coconut oil soothe aching muscles.

Treat Skin Problems and other diseases with Virgin Coconut Oil

Fever: Massaging virgin coconut oil on whole body will lower body temperature.

Acne: VCO easily absorbs into skin and will not make your face oily and greasy. It will clean the pores and clear your face.

Insect Bites: Putting a little VCO on affected area will relieve itching and prevent infection. It can also stop a wound from bleeding and speed healing.

Rough skin: Keep your skin moist by frequent application of virgin coconut oil. Not only will your complexion improve, scars and discoloration on skin will also vanish. Testimonials from mothers that uses VCO says it can prevent stretch marks.  Virgin coconut oil can also be used as a suntan lotion.

Dandruff:  VCO moisturises and cleanses the scalp and reduces dandruff and promotes healthy hair growth.

Athletes Foot and Body Odor: VCO is antibacterial so it kills germs and bacteria that causes body odor. It can also be used to get rid of fungal infections like athletes foot.

The Roof the Problem
Your skin problem is often a manifestation of what is happening inside your body. If you are susceptible to fungal infections and other skin irritations, chances are you have a weak immune system. It can also mean that your body is loaded with harmful toxins. Applying virgin coconut oil on problem areas and ingesting VCO can heal the said conditions, as VCO strengthens immune system as well as is a good detoxifier.
