Top Four Skincare Mistakes Women Make

Your skin remembers when you do not take care of it....

Avoid these major skincare mistakes and your skin will say thank you by staying plump, smooth and flawless.

Drinking too little water
Yup, the golden rule of drinking 6-8 glasses of water still applies. And there's a good reason for that too. Drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day not only keeps your body and skin hydrated, it'll keep you looking young because your skin looks plump and is less prone to developing wrinkles.

You can substitute water with freshly squeezed juice (make sure you hold the sugar!) but not coffee and soft drinks. They contain caffeine, which is a diuretic. It'll encourage your body to excrete water instead of keeping all that hydrated goodness inside.

A can't-resist bonus: your body burns more fat because your internal organs work better when they're fully hydrated.

Sleeping with makeup on
Oh, we’ve all done it. Came home late and crashed into bed. “The makeup remover can wait,” you think. Well, actually, it can’t. Just think about all the stuff that your skin’s been exposed to. Pollution, cigarette smoke, sweat – your face is now the ideal breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to acne.

Also, because makeup clogs pores, your skin can’t breathe through the night, leaving you with dry, flaky and definitely-not-sexy skin in the morning. Try keeping a few of those handy baby wipes next to your bed. You can use it to remove your makeup… lying down.

Leaving your skin thirsty at night
You know what would be another great thing to have next to your bed? A jar of night cream. Night time’s when your skin gets a break from fighting off UV rays and concentrates on rebuilding and rejuvenating itself. But it needs some moisture to do this, which is exactly what your night cream provides.

Just make sure that your night cream contains active ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). They help boost skin repair. Another great habit to cultivate: apply another layer of night cream if you wake up in the middle of the night. It’ll keep your skin plump, young and dewy. Love!

Skipping sunscreen
Now that you’ve got your night time skin care routine down pat, it’s time to wake up to a new day. So you’ve got your cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Great! But wait, where’s your sunscreen? It’s a daily must. And because it’s super important, we’re going to say it again: sunscreen is a daily must.

It protects your skin from those harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays which generate free radicals (cancer alert!) and ages your skin prematurely. For best protection, choose a sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and combats both UVA and UVB rays.

Apply liberally every day even if it’s cloudy. In the sun all the time? Reapply liberally every four hours.
